Defaulting to Moab

Sam and Joe and I unexpectedly went to Moab to check out Arches and Canyonlands National Parks when a previously scheduled trip to climb Mt. Massive fell though.  John apparently didn’t learn to read calendars until he was nearly 30 years old and double-booked himself.  Chris had ‘mandatory’ training that he had to be at or ‘lose his job’. They both bailed a couple days before the trip so Joe and I scrambled to put something else together and Sam was able to get off work to join us.

I’ve been to the Moab area a few times but it was Sam and Joe’s first trip.  I took them to see a few of the highlights and we explored some areas I hadn’t been into yet. We learned to read signs about water and also spent two nights in the first campsite I’ve ever seen with a second story.  All around a very good recovery from total trip failure 48 hours before we were supposed to be hitting the road. John does get some redemption for being our beer savior and rescuing us from crappy weak Mormon beer.
