My cousin Ian and I flew to Chile to see the eclipse in the summer of 2019. After landing in Santiago we drove up the coast to La Serena to be under the path of totality. We had a couple days to spare before the eclipse so we went hiking, visited a winery and found some really great food along the way!
We got a great tip from our Airbnb host to go up into the mountains for the eclipse. So we ventured up to the Santa Gracia Nature Reserve. Pretty sure we were the only non-Chileans there! As usual, listening to the locals and getting away from the crowds paid off.
